Queen Mrs. O

This is how one of my students view me.  I feel so honored!  With the year coming to a close, I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful group of kids.  We shared many laughs and smiles.  When I was out sick with the stomach bug last week for 3 days, I came back to a bunch of kids so excited to see me.  I teared up right there!  In addition, we were celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week so I had all kinds of special treats.  I loved everything!  The cards and notes and hugs were very touching.  I don't know how we all do it every year.  Saying good-bye is tough!  I am going to try and make the last couple week memorable for my sweet fourth graders!  Stay tuned for some of my end-of-year ideas!

Mother's Day and My Mom

Happy Early Mother's Day to all the moms out there!  This is what we will be working on in our class this week.  I created a booklet for my students to make.  I wanted to send home a keepsake that will make their moms laugh and cry!  It has a flower theme with quotes for the students to interpret.

Included are two size options: whole pages and half pages for a 10 page booklet:
Pages 1-5 :Quotes about Mothers that students need to write, draw, or color information related to the quote. EX. All I am, or hope to be I owe to my angel mother- Abraham Lincoln
Page 6: A page of why the students pick their mothers. Page 7: A fill-in-the-blank poem Page 8: A page of I love you, I love you not where they list Mom's favorite things. Page 9: A fill-in-the-blank- Do you know how my mom helps me grow?Page 10: And a blossoming hug for Mom.
There are a total of 10 pages in the booklet not including the cover which I print off on card stock. I included one color and one black and white cover. I add a blank card stock on the back of the booklet. There is also a directions page that I put on my smart board as I explain how to do each page.
I added a flower pot design and directions on how to make it. I am going to add some fake grass and student made flowers to the pots too. Cute cute cute!

I have to include a picture of my mom since we are talking about moms!  This is a picture of my mom (on the right) and my godmother (on the left).  It was taken a few years back when my godmother was still with us.  Beautiful women!

Now that I am back in my classroom and back to reality, I have a prezzie for you!  Today only I am posting my Fairy Tale Figurative Language Unit on TPT for free.  Did I say free?  Yes I did!

Figurative Language is such an important part of reading and writing. We love to discover and identify them in our stories. We love to use it in our writing!

This thorough unit can be used to introduce Figurative Language at the beginning of the year or as a review at the end of the year! It is really fun to practice it with a fairy tale unit! I provided an easy to follow Two-Week Lesson plan and each of them go along with fairy tales:
Cinderella Similes
Little Mermaid Metaphors
Alice's Alliteration
Fairy Tale Onomatopoeia
Pinnochio's Personification
Idioms of Imagination
Hansel's Hyperboles

You will find everything you need! I included: a colorful poster for display or smart board, a whole group practice, independent practice, as well as a booklet (with rubric) for each one. In addition, I have 3 combination reviews, culminating writing activity, a study guide, and a test. When your students finish with this unit, they will have a clear understanding of Figurative Language! A book list and answer keys are also included!

Cheer Worlds designs

I guess creating teaching materials is a helpful skill especially when I was in charge of treat bags for the 38 coed cheerleaders!  I had so much fun making these.  I put them on stickers and candy bars.  Now I think I might print them out for a t-shirt to wear down there.  I just need to find a cute shirt to put them on.

In case you are wondering, the cancer sign is for our cheer mom, Ashley.  We call our team Ashley's Army because she was diagnosed with breast cancer last summer.  She has been strong and kept everything going even through chemo!  ASTBWOH- A strong team beats with one heart.  Purple heart is our team name within Cheer Extreme.  Of course the Mickey/Minnie thing is because Worlds is in Disney in less than a week!
