Legend Study

This week, my students enjoyed our legend study. I put them in four groups. They read one story together and discussed the legend elements. Then filled out a summary and activity for it. Then, they moved to the next center the following day with a different story. We read:

Legend of the Christmas Stocking
Legend of St. Nicholas
Legend of the Bluebonnet
Legend of the Indian Paintbrush

The activities for each legend:
Legend 1- Making Text Connections
Legend 2- Point of View
Legend 3- Fact and Opinion
Legend 4- Meaningful Quote

On Friday, I read The Legend of the Pointsettia to them and we made poinstettias. I decorated my door with them. In my store, I have the worksheets, craft instructions, and rubric if you are interested. Of course I forgot to take a picture so I am sending myself an email to do that on Monday!!!

Half the time I don't know! I do know that I'm not the teacher who sits back or doesn't put herself out there. I'll go on the morning news dressed in my Steeler gear (although I now teach in SC) to raise money for Relay for Life, I'll dress up and lipsync R-E-S-P-E-C-T for our character of the month, and I'll display myself in a superwoman costume on my door for our hero theme. And yes at one of our state reading conferences, I was the one dressed up as Miss Nelson's substitute. The only thing I won't do again, is get in that dunking tank for our carnival! Not only was it freezing, but I couldn't get back up on the seat after I practically drown a million times! I tell all my students that they are MY kids. I have two kids of my own, one getting ready to graduate (sniff, sniff) and the other in the middle school (love the hormones). My husband and I are closer than ever as we tackle or tag team for homework, sports, and events for school and church. You would think that it would keep us young, but geeze! I thank all those bloggers out there who keep me entertained when I can't sleep at night. I can be seen in many facets of the internet (blog, twitter, facebook, instagram) under Mrs. O's Rockin Resources, Mrs. O's Rockin Classroom, Common Core Teacher, and Rockin Pam.
